A recent phone can already produce usable footage. To get more consistent results, stabilize framing, improve sound and control lighting. A starter kit doesn’t need to be bulky.
- Stabilize the image: A mini tripod holds the phone steady. Its adjustable legs let you place it on a desk, table or uneven surface. For a fixed shot, this stability is often more useful than a sophisticated accessory.
- Place the camera correctly: The lens should be near eye level for a natural presentation. Leave a little space above the head and check the image edges before recording. A flexible mount with a clamp works when the phone must stay above a desk or document.
- Improve voice capture: A phone’s microphone becomes less effective when the device is distant. A USB-C lavalier mic can bring voice capture closer. Always test, as apps and phones don’t handle all accessories the same way.
- Control the light: Sit facing a soft light source. Avoid a very bright window behind you. If available light varies, lock exposure and focus as much as possible in the app you’re using.
- Prepare the content: A useful video answers a specific question. Write an intro, two or three main points and a conclusion. This preparation reduces retakes and helps you stay concise.
Commerce Meritium offers accessories suited to this setup, including a mini tripod for phone and camera, a goose-neck articulating mount and a USB-C lavalier microphone. The goal isn’t to accumulate gear but to solve three problems: stability, framing and intelligibility.
Minimal kit: Phone, stable mount, suitable microphone and a front light source.
